    Murphy's Oil Soap, it is a 'viscous' liquid, has been the best brush cleaner for me. It seems to make the paint drop off the brush similarly to the old Silicoil from years ago. Problem with Silicoil is you have to wash the silicon out afterwards. Murphy's allows me to shorten the brush cleaning ritual and seems to leave the brush bristels unmolested. I did however have a particular synthetic bristle brush 'dissolve' when I soaked it for a number of days. Just that one but the others along with, it also synths, were unafected 14:48 ? Strange. I am hating the cleaning sessions less now. I don't paint every day so I like to keep things clean and safe.🧐 Turps always had me buying sables and other brushes regularly. Destructive to paint, brush and human.

    Weird question, I purchased a painting/drawing at goodwill. It's of a tree, fence and country background. It says Branson in the bottom right corner and I've been trying to figure out who the artist is. Is there anyone here I can ask to look at a picture of the work?

    Great talk. I am interested to know about this exercise you breifly touched on about a bunch of squares?? Can you explain this so I can give it a try

    • @LindaRiesenbergFisler
      @LindaRiesenbergFisler Рік тому

      Hi Rhonda, thanks for subscribing and watching the video. You will tax my memory here, but basically, is it dividing a 16x20-inch canvas into 100 one-inch squares. Using photo reference, reduce each one-inch square to the color and value you see in the reference. No blending, no worrying about the edges. As Kevin stated, it is more a value exercise. Hope this helps.

    A wonderful concept by a fantastic artist. I purchased the book a few years ago and am constantly fascinated by the variety of colors, and values he was able to achieve by using only the primaries plus white. Kevin is truly a master.

    Regarding PM1 availability in Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. Our customers in these countries have ordered very little PM1 past year, however, if they request it from their local stores then I am sure they can add it to their next order with us. Jacksons Art often orders this product and can ship to these countries.

    One question- his plein air are so finished. Does this go same with painting urban scene with so many drawing.. Or that is finished in the studio

    • @LindaRiesenbergFisler
      @LindaRiesenbergFisler 4 роки тому

      As far as I know, Joe does not finish studies in his studio. He uses his plein air studies to paint from in the studio. Joe nevers uses a photograph-so he paints from his studies and memory. Hope this helps.

    • @reyanshh_rahul

      If a plein air includes lots of buildings and critical drawing Which needs perspective Then how much time he spend on drawing How he approach the painting in such a situation

    • @LindaRiesenbergFisler
      @LindaRiesenbergFisler 4 роки тому

      @@reyanshh_rahul I would suggest contacting Joe directly via his website. As far as I can remember, Joe doesn't paint a lot of urban scenes. Contacting Joe directly at www.JosephMcGurl.com would be your best bet to get the answer you are looking for.

      Hi Andrea! Thank you for your comment. As I told my students at the arts center, if there isn't a technical reason why I "critique" their work, I won't say anything. I really believe that struggle in non-technical areas is a huge part of finding our voice. So, I can only offer my experiences and hopefully some technical reasons why to do something. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate that you took your valuable time to watch. I'll give #SnickersLittleGirl a hug for you. Right now, she is pinned to my side trying to get some of my yogurt! :-D Have a great day!

    You girls are absolutely right when you said , " To be able to paint and learn without having to do it as a job for money." I agree , keeping the joy and passion alive for me is very important. I need to feel that way about my work , the same way I'm moved when I see other people's work that moves me. I take small vacations to come back still in love , I pace myself. Great video girls, very informative.

    I have a question and this maybe asking a lot. I not sure the date of this talk but here goes. I have several of Jean Pederson's DVDs. As well as her book Expressive portraits. I love the freedom of her painting style of which I'm trying to learn. I am self taught painting portraits using acrylic paint. I have her DVD Wet Glazing watercolor portraits and it is very informative? However I'm having a challenging time converting the watercolor concepts into acrylic. I do understand the nature of the different mediums. But I really want to translate the watercolor info from her book into acrylic portraits. Do you have any suggestions for layering the skin tones, using the paint colors, suggested in the Expressive Portraits book into acrylics on canvas. After listening to this talk I think I have the answer, however thank you in advance for your response.

    • @LindaRiesenbergFisler
      @LindaRiesenbergFisler 5 років тому

      Connie, Jean Pederson would be the better person to ask. There is a contact form on her website www.jeanpederson.com/. I work mostly with oils and some drawing. The explorer in me encourages you to go with the answer you think you have and see what happens!

    They always say "Become known to the gallery before you share your art" ... but the reality is not everyone lives in NYC, Miami or whatever. So how do you do that when you live next door to nowhere?

    • @AlysonStanfield
      @AlysonStanfield 9 років тому

      Brandi: First, we have to acknowledge that galleries are everywhere - not just in NYC, Miami, and other large cities. I have two suggestions: 1) send postcards to the galleries 3-4 times a year and 2) Connect with them on social media. See this article I wrote: www.artbizblog.com/2010/07/joinconversation.html Hope this helps!

    • @bjasmine
      @bjasmine 9 років тому

      Alyson Stanfield Thanks, I appreciate the answer. There are a few galleries where I live, but they are mostly artist-specific. I can't afford to set up my own. And I live in a VERY "blue collar" area, and the art I do isn't what sells here. I've been thinking about expanding into painted landscapes and the like, but my beaded work is much more mature than my painting right now.
